Desire to be different
While Rocket had been trading for a few years, their visual assets were inconsistent and in need of a refresh. They wanted a new visual identity that would better reflect the personality of the business, be memorable and set them apart from the competition.

The importance of a brief
The first thing we did was to help Rocket write a simple brief, sometimes it's too easy to get carried away and just start making stuff but a brief helps both parties ensure everything that can be considered has been and that we’re all aiming for the same thing - what does success look like?

Iterate and fail
With a brief in place, we could then begin in confidence with some initial hand-drawn sketches and mood boards. These allow us to quickly explore our ideas, concepts and styles. We use these to bring our clients into the creative process and get feedback early so there are no big surprises or pitfalls later on. We then agree on a visual direction before working up and digitising our ideas into fully formed concepts and mock-ups.

Abstract simplicity
The end result was a simple and abstract ‘blast’ motif to represent the energy and movement of the company. Coupled with a timeless typeface, the overall mark is a perfect example of iconicity - where a form looks like it’s meaning. The green colour palette was chosen as a contrast to direct competitors and we ramped up the brightness (turning vivid up to 11) to ensure maximum stand out.

A timeless toolkit
The bold directional lines from the blast icon were also intended as a visual mechanic to extend the look and feel of the brand, consistently and in an interesting and eye-catching way across all other collateral. Initially, we rolled this out into business cards and digital assets. The new Rocket identity is not just a logo but a toolkit that can be used to help create a better experience throughout the customer journey now and in the future.
